Vanessa is a modern expressionist artist who’s love of life and experiencing soulful encounters, is resonated when paint hits the canvas. Quoted as possessing Joié de Vivre, Vanessa blends abstraction with botanicals to express and provoke, with joy evident in all of her pieces.
Motivated by a desire to feel and immerse, inspiration comes from an upbringing involving attendance at the arts, with live theatre being frequented. A return to a simpler life is a definite theme, as is architectural form, design and feminine nuances.

Artist Statement
As I approach the canvas, I don’t know what I’m going to paint. There are no pre-conceived ideas, just a need. This need translates through exuberant movements, some large, some small. Marks, smears and lines exist together, complimentary yet juxtaposed. My message is to encourage a return to simplicity, without losing momentum and character. Beauty in nature reminds me of this. At times the need comes with a sense of urgency- an urgency to tell my message, to share through my art plus to develop and grow as a person, as an artist.
My current work is very emotive and intuitive. I only plan the colours, from there I let my feelings and creativity fly. Once purely abstract, the flowers emerged and they now come liberally. Botanical, loose abstracts are my joy, the flowers representing freedom and a return to a whimsical, child-like time. The combination of soft versus bold, dark versus light, portrays the way I want to be seen and how I feel I fit in the world. My message is to encourage a return to simplicity, without losing momentum and character. Beauty in nature reminds us of this.
Themes of identity, play, romance, femininity and Interior Design are explored in my work. My philosophy is to show up, be open and true, embracing the journey with passion. I choose to flourish, than exist.
